Summary: Sasuke's inspecting the damaged rooms as a precaution. Allen thinks he's a zombie.

[It had been at least a month since Sasuke had completed temporary repairs to the building with help from Okami and Sakura. It had started snowing, and raining quite a bit since, and he figured that it was time to check in on each individual room to see how, exactly, the rooms were fairing.

And, of course, that required heading downstairs to the first floor. Spotting the only damaged room on the floor, Sasuke opened the door and headed inside.]

[Over in the next room, Allen looks up and frowns. That had sounded like someone entering the room nextdoor, but he knows for a fact that he's the only one living on this floor, not to mention room 103 is far too damaged for anyone to live in.

Holding a finger to his lips to shush Timcanpy, he eases his own door open in silence in case it's an unwelcome visitor, then sneaks a wary look at the other room.

...Please don't let it be zombies.]

[Whenever Sasuke felt someone standing behind him, he stopped what he was doing and glanced back over his shoulder. The name failed him at the moment, but he recalled Allen using the network rather frequently since he arrived a month or so ago.]

Can I help you?

[Allen relaxes visibly when he sees it's another one of the apartment's residents, and steps fully into the doorway he was just lurking in, doing a rather good job of not looking like he'd been bracing for a fight. He's wearing the cordial smile of someone who's unsure of his welcome, but working to secure it all the same.]

Sorry, I heard you opening the door and got curious. Sasuke, was it?

Yes.

[Sorry that he's not much of a talker, Allen. Sasuke's just doing a quick check of the room with his Sharingan. Looks like damage from 103 hadn't carried over, thankfully. Now to actually check on the room itself.]

Sorry to have bothered you.

[That's quite alright, Allen has a fair bit of experience when it comes to ~~bickering~~ communicating with reticent people. The well-mannered reply is taken as an invitation to step further into the room, wielding his smile like an olive branch.]

Please don't worry about it. Like you said, some noise once in a while is better than none at all. May I ask what you're doing?

[You'll have to follow him into 103 as he explains it now, Allen.]

The building came under attack from one of the residents here a few months ago. I repaired it temporarily with some help. I'm simply seeing how the fix is holding up in this weather.

[And once you step inside 103, you'll notice that on the inside is several largely stacked bricks, and behind that the wall has been boarded up with wood.]

[Falls into step behind Sasuke -- well, not completely behind him, he's deliberately listing to one side so Sasuke can still keep an eye on him if he wants to. White eyebrows knit together in a frown upon hearing the explanation.]

A resident attacked everyone else?

[Takes a quick look around the room, noting the repairs.]

It appears to be holding up quite well. I've been staying on this floor for a month now [Christ], but I haven't noticed drafts or anything giving way.

Yes. His name was Joker.

[Just walks up to the repairs, placing a hand on the bricks.]

Good. The building can't be properly fixed until spring; with how cold it gets here, someone getting sick from a leak would only serve to be harmful without a medic in this city.

[...Joker? Brb discarding several inappropriate comments.] I don't think I've met anyone by that name. Is he still here?

[Allen walks up to the repairs as he speaks, crouching to check for any flaws they might've missed.Expression thusly hidden, he allows himself the luxury of a worried twist to his lips.]

...So we don't have a medic after all. Perhaps the hospital here will have some medical supplies we can salvage.

[Behind them, Timcanpy has deemed it safe to follow his master and is making a beeline for Allen's shoulder. One of the first instructions Allen gave him, after arriving in Nesreca, is to stay out of sight while the Exorcist checks out potentially threatening situations, and to alert Kanda if things start blowing up. Seeing as nothing bad is happening... Shoulder, get.]

He's left months ago. Since then, it's been fairly quiet.

[Sasuke glances down at Allen then, watching out of peaking curiosity.]

Many places in this city are haunted. Considering the hospital, it would be safe to assume that the building is as well.

[Sasuke drops his hand and turns to leave the room to check the ones upstairs.] While documents might have survived all this time, I wouldn't put much money on actual supplies surviving so long.

Ah. One less worry, at least.

[It's good to hear it verbally confirmed. He also hopes Joker had been sent home, if only because he can't bring himself to hope otherwise, but decides that's a thought better kept to himself. After giving the repairs a quick once-over, he gives Tim a quick pat and follows Sasuke out, smile back in place, although this one is far more chagrined.]

I see. Someone told me the library's haunted, but I wasn't expecting other places to be haunted as well. Looks like Credinta is the better option.

The simple reason is that this entire city was slaughtered, it seems. I haven't learned enough Russian to figure that out from the books, unfortunately.

[There's your bad news, Allen. You can dwell on it as he heads up to the third floor to his old room.]

[There's a sharp intake of breath, and when Allen speaks again a long pause later, his tone is too measured to indicate real calmness.]

I'd assumed there was a war and all the survivors had fled, not a massacre. Do you think Libitina had anything to do with it?

...And I don't mind helping if you're going to check on the other rooms, by the way. [The last bit's spoken as he follows Sasuke up the stairs.]

I highly doubt either of those.

[When Sasuke stops, it's in front of his old room. There's writing on the door, unlike with most of the doors here, although it's somewhat faded and wiped away at this point.]

There's only five more rooms after this.

[Allen's response to this is a heavy, heavy sigh. One question answered with more to come.]

I'll come with you, if you don't mind. Maybe we can use some of the furniture to reinforce the repairs... [trails off when he notices the writing and narrows his eyes in an attempt to decipher it]

Possibly.

[Just kinda opens the door and heads inside. Allen, meet your first well-kept (though dusty) abandoned room.]

I lived here when I first arrived, if you're curious about the name on the door.

[Blinking out of his scrutiny to match this new bit of information with the tidiness of the room before him.]

Oh. Excuse me for prying, but you sound like you've been here a long time. How have you been getting by?

[Checking the wall, then the boarded window.]

The same as everyone else. Find food when necessary, clean when necessary, stay warm.

Sounds straightforward enough. [Worries at his lip for a moment, because what he's about to say implies he's thinking long-term, and Allen does not like that at all.] Is there usually more wildlife around in the other seasons, or perhaps fruit to pick?

[He turns to give Timcanpy another pat and a quick upnod at the ceiling, watching as the golem leaves its perch to help check on higher parts of the wall that are out of their reach.]

You would have to go outside the city to find any decent wildlife. Both cities are fairly large; the more convenient side of things would be to simply take from Credinta, although I never suggest it.

[That's... not the most encouraging answer ever, but at least there's some hope of other food sources.] I prefer to visit Credinta as little as possible. Maybe fishing will also be an option when the weather turns warmer.

[Is Allen good at fishing? Not... really. Can Clown Belt snag fish? The universe is going to find out, probably while God and Leverrier have a synchronised seizure somewhere back home. Allen's always been more practical than religious, anyway.

Tim flutters back down with a wide grin as if to say All clear.]

Possibly. The river is quite large.

[Sasuke glances up at Timcanpy curiously before he flutters away.] It's a good decision to stick with, at any case.

[This room done, time to head upstairs again.]

[Catches that look and explains--] This is a golem, we use them as communication devices in my world. Mine's name is Timcanpy.

[Follows him out again.]

I see.

[And this is where he'll start to just stay quiet, doing the same thing to various rooms on the remaining floors.]

[There isn't much small talk to be had in this place, so he just helps whenever he can. Timcanpy will check all the high spots and whatever nooks and crannies out of their reach.]
