Summary: Allen drops by Kanda's room after helping Sasuke check on the damaged rooms.

[On his way back to his room after parting ways with Sasuke, Allen lingers in the stairwell of the fourth floor for just a beat too long, but eventually turns on his heel and keeps going. One would think that's the end of it, except his footsteps falter on the next flight, fall into silence, then start dragging themselves back up with what sounds like great reluctance, or at least a whole lot of denial. Gloved knuckles meet Kanda's door a moment later, not so much a knock than a sharp rap.]

[Kanda just...stared at his door for a long while. Was that Allen? What the hell was the bean sprout doing up here...

He had better just be imagining things. Has to be the lack of sleep. Yep, totally it. This reasoning keeps him where he is in his windowsill. Figment of his imagination.]

What, bean sprout?

[Meanwhile, on the other side of the door, Allen is trying very hard to decide if the silence greeting him is sword-happy, not sword-happy, or maybe just a simple I'm out right now. He's about to knock again when the reply finally comes.]

It's Allen, Bakanda! Can't you do things like normal people for once and open the door when someone knocks?

[Fine, he's getting up and walking over to answer the door. See Kanda wearing both of his jackets, Allen~]

What, stupid bean sprout?

[Here's a slightly dusty Exorcist taking a casual step back to give you a critical once-over, trying to be subtle about it. He'll be watching out for changes in your appearance or any sign that you're not doing as well as you should, if there're even any.]

[...To be fair, Allen isn't looking all that great either. There's dust from the damaged rooms clinging to his hair and face, and if you pay attention, you'll notice he looks kind of gaunt.]

A sti-- [Actually chokes a bit, looking rather affronted. You mean "bean sprout" isn't scrawny enough for your liking!?]

Well you look like a zombie, and I bet your hair's going to start looking like Bookman's lack of it if you don't get some sleep.

I sleep just fine, bean sprout.

[Flat look. Very, very flat look.]

Your eyes, Kanda. Your Bookman eyes. And it's Allen. [a pause] ...Look, if you're worried about something showing up, I can keep watch while you sleep or something. We don't even have to be in the same room.

Tch, who said I was worried about anything? You're imagining things.

[Resists the urge to throw his hands up and the proverbial olive branch out the nearest window.]

So you aren't, whatever. Point is, I've seen Miss Miranda look more well-rested than you are right now.

I wouldn't be so sure. Did you know insomnia's one of the many causes of epic hair loss?

[Blinks -- it's clear from the look on his face that he'd been expecting to score a point.]

Believe what you want, Kanda. Just keep in mind that stress, insomnia, and hair loss oft go hand in hand.

[Offers a beatific smile in return.] I've been sleeping well.

[Okay, not all that well, but many more hours than you've been getting. Even if it's in installments.]

Your stomach's just about as bad as the vampire's.

[Stiffens almost imperceptibly -- he may actually be a little offended, after all that effort he put into hiding it.]

No it isn't, I know it isn't. [trying to steer away from this and back to the previous subject now] And if you're trying to tell me that's why you haven't been sleeping, I may have to maim you.

[Snort.]

I have no problems sleeping. Stupid bean sprout.

...If you insist, chopped bangs. When they find you collapsed, emaciated, and bald, I'll be there to laugh.

As if that'll happen.

Better make sure it doesn't, or I'll soon be using your hair to make that wig we always talk about.

[Decides this is probably the furthest he can go with the hair threats without being obviously manipulative, and turns to go.]

[Disbelieving snort.]

[...Somehow, that works much better than any verbal argument he'd been ready to dodge and parry. Keeps walking, but sighs and throws an answer over his shoulder regardless, because he won't do you the insult of keeping up a pretense you've obviously seen through.]

It can't be helped. I'm holding up, anyway.
