She's basically lost
Characters: Doc Holiday and everyone
When: January 18th-19th
Where: Her own room, 404, or around the apartments
Rating: G/PG
Summary: The Doc is about as settled in as she's going to get, so come bug her or let her come bug you.
This city was crazy. What they were telling her was crazy. She desperately wanted to find out what had happened back home, but she had mostly resigned herself to the fact that she was dead and this was some strange hell she was in. Likely for Beverly.
Or maybe they were all right and she was here just like them until the spirits decided to send her back. But what would she go back to? Would she still just die and lose everything anyway? Holiday sighed.
She can think about that at night when she tried to sleep. For now, she had to focus on getting by from day to day then get to bigger things.
Like Credinta.

It was a rather short story, but it was pretty... important to her.

He motions for her to continue with her story.

"Well, I don't know how long you've been here, but you must be accustomed to people being from other... worlds by now. I'm sorry if this seems a bit crazy, but-..."
Okay. For real this time. "On my planet, five years ago, there was an explosion in Europe at what we assume was a research lab. The explosion released what we call nanites. As you mentioned, they're nanoscopic machines and these went airborne. The got into everything. The soil, the water, the plants, animals, humans, everything. Including me.
"The nanites were designed and programmed for a purpose, but we only have theories of what they were supposed to do. The ones that were released have incomplete programming, though... Are you with me so far?"
She's about to get to the important part.

Yukio nodded, expression completely seriously, if not just a little perplexed. It wasn't every day you got to hear about infestations of a robotic/nanoscopic nature. But if they were released with incomplete programming and possibly suspicious intentions...

"Most nanites remain dormant and inactive, but some bond to their host's on the molecular level, become infected, and then activate. This causes immediate mutations to the host's physical and mental state. Sometimes the physical will end up being worse than the mental or vice versa and sometimes the process is hardly noticeable at all. Most of the time, both are. The living creatures that change like this are what we call EVOs. Exponentially variegated organisms.
"To put this in layman's terms, they turn into monsters... most of the time. Sometimes, there's just deformities or controlled powers, but most of the time it's just... a rampaging monster out to kill and destroy. We've seen insects like beetles turn into something that spits fire and eats skyscrapers.
"... Do you realize why I'm telling you this, Mr. Okumura?"

Eyebrows furrow as Yukio takes in the explanation, concern growing with every detail. Airborn to begin with, what would stop whatever nanites Rebecca was carrying from infecting the rest of the population? Even if the risk of infection was small, it would be like nothing they've ever had to deal with in Nesreca before.
"... You carry with you the risk of infection."

"Back home, there's an organization that works solely to cure, contain, or neutralize EVOs and stop the nanite plague. It's called Providence... and I'm their lead researcher."

"Whatever supplies you need, all you have to do is ask. If it's something we can't provide here, it can probably be found in Credinta." He looks awkward for a moment before continuing. "I can't go myself, but there are other residents who can."

She'd have to talk to Lavi or something. "I can try to think of some other way if nothing else. I'm sorry to burden you with this, but I'm not sure who to tell and someone needs to know in case-... Well, in case I turn someday."
Which brought her to another point. "Some people back home are curable, but according to my genes, I wouldn't be. It's not like we have the cure here anyway... The point that I'm making is that if I start turning or fully turn, it'll be best to put me down as fast as possible. I won't say the same if someone else gets infected and turns. They have a chance. I know I don't."

He shook his head, dismissing that apology. "It's better that someone knows, but hopefully it won't have to come to that." Yukio's already had to make this agreement more than once (most residents know those guns he carries aren't just for show, after all), but thankfully he's never had to follow through. "In the worst case scenario, well... we've become very good at taking care of ourselves."

However, she smiles to his words. It might be a bit... creepy to be happy about such a thing, but she doesn't want to hurt anyone. "Good. Thank you, then."

"You're welcome."
