He's not confused, he just doesn't want to give her advice that she can't decide if she should trust or not. Would it be better if he had said "trust me"? He could say that and then do horrible things to abuse her trust. Lavi couldn't do that, trust him only as far as you can throw him or a ball. It's her choice.
