Characters: Mello [[livejournal.com profile] slavic_sinner] and Shihouin Yoruichi [[livejournal.com profile] bakanekotaichou]
When: After this.
Where: Over by the river, then over to the burnt village.
Rating: TBA
Summary: Curiosity leads to take Mello and Yoruichi out to follow the smoke, and find out what exactly happened.

Five minutes. Yoruichi didn't respond back, merely grinning that same, catty grin to herself. She was there in less the three, and she had taken her time. One flash step from the roof, landing soundlessly on the ground below, her hair billowing out behind her. She had actually walked the rest of the way, her arms folded neatly inside the sleeves of her haori, the light, black shoes she wore crunching the snow underfoot.

Since arriving a little early she waited, her arms falling limply at her sides, one hand resting on the hilt of her zanpakutou. Golden eyes strayed over the water, and at the town around her, questioning once again why she was here when she had such an important post back home. Not to mention why was anyone really here, and what their purpose was, and if their was any specific reason they were chosen.

She remained in her thought process as she waited, simultaneously aware of her surroundings, half focused the different reiatsu around her, and which ones may move closer to her.

Mello was there precisely when he said he would be. Ideally, it'd have been earlier, which was why he'd offered a bit more time to get there and scout the area first, but this was fine as well. Approaching where they'd agreed to meet, he saw the woman had already arrived.

He walked right up to her, raising an arm a bit in a casual but wordless greeting.

Mello nodded, taking in her unusual appearance with sharp blue eyes but making no comment.

"Call me M," he instructed more than introduced himself, crisp and businesslike. This was a business expedition, in a way. Strictly reconnaissance, as far as he was concerned. He took a bite out of the half-eaten chocolate he carried in one hand, producing a soft snap and not giving a damn whether or not it was considered rude.

Mello kept up with her pace easily--though he couldn't have suspected she was slowing down for him purposefully--and walked casually beside her, free hand stuffed against the cold in the pocket of his black leather coat. He wasn't following, but they both knew where they were going so he merely stayed with her, gnawing absently on his candy bar. He was getting low on them, and Matt wanted other food as well. He would have to stop by Credinta to steal some more.

"Any brilliant plans?" he drawled, snapping off another piece. Strictly reconnaissance on his part--he didn't feel like getting involved before he knew more--but it would be good to know what this woman wanted, if they were to travel together. Even if he was not above simply ditching her if it was convenient.

"Then we're thinking along the same lines," Mello agreed, nodding calmly. "Hope you know how to keep out of sight." And if she didn't, a distraction could be utilized as well. Mello's greatest concern was getting as much info as possible on this place as a whole. The more he knew, the more likely he could find a way home.

Finishing up his chocolate bar and tossing the wrapper to the floor--it hardly mattered, in a place like this--he stared over in the direction the smoke had been coming from, the direction they were currently heading. "Is that sword all you've got?"

Mello gave a thoughtful hum, but didn't question the confidence in her voice. She carried herself and spoke like a woman who knew what she was doing--and he'd known plenty of fakers in his lifetime to be able to tell the difference.

He did have to ask though, "Oh? How fast are you?" Clearly, she had more up her sleeve than she was showing outright.

Blue eyes widening for a moment, Mello had to turn his head quickly to realize where she'd gone--in less than a second, it seemed, as if she'd just disappeared and then simply reappeared there. He blinked, then stared, then pursed his lips and affected a supposedly disinterested grunt to hide the fact he was some odd mix of impressed, suspicious, and perhaps a tad intimidated--and he didn't like it.

"That must be convenient."

Mello gave a soft, noncommittal grunt and continued to just walk with her, one hand constantly hovering near where his gun was hidden in his coat, simply on instinct. He might not have been as fast as her, but Mello hardly walked slowly, and they began to approach the ruins after a while. Frowning, Mello nodded toward a still-standing building on the outskirts that seemed empty, meaning to hide in its shadow while they planned their next move. There seemed to be people still in the village, though not visible too well from this distance--they certainly didn't look like everyday citizens though. "Soldiers," Mello concluded, fairly certain of himself. "We'll have to get closer." Within hearing distance, more specifically, perhaps close enough to grab someone for a little questioning, if necessary. Mello was open about ideas, and not entirely nice ones.

She was gone by the time Mello could blink again, but beyond a slight widening of his eyes in surprise and a little frown, he did not react. She had shown him before, after all, and he didn't expect her not to use her abilities in this situation. In the meantime, he focused his attentions on the people moving around inside the ruins of the town.

Keeping his gun at the ready, he moved closer, sticking to the shadows of the buildings and making his way over silently and as quickly as he could. He was here for information, so he wouldn't shoot or attract attention to himself unless absolutely necessary.
