It's clear by the blank look on his face that he's humoring Matthew and not quite getting-or caring about-how dangerous the gun could be. All he knew was that he was trained for situations like this.

So with a nod he sets back off to the bridge and walks right across, not caring that the guards had spotted him and were moving to block his path. He brought his hands up and made a cross with his fingers and the next instant there were two more Narutos then there had been previously.

Naruto and his clones brought the guards down quickly with a series of punches and kicks. It was all over in a matter of a few seconds. Then suddenly there was only one Naruto again and he was crouching next to one of the guards and looking at what he expected was the man's gun.

Grinning, he picked it up and waved it in the air for Matthew to see. "These don't look dangerous at all."
