Things are never easy for us

Characters: OU!Haruno Sakura {

tenacious_medic} and OU!Uchiha Sasuke {

Where: Library
Rating: PG-13, to be safe but may go up for violence.
Summary: Sakura wants to meet with her ex-teammate and straighten some things out between them, or at least let him know what he's become.

Sakura finally sets her eyes on the library after much searching. She had to ask multiple people where it was located before even having a clue as to where it was. Being lost and nervous was never a good compilation. She wasn't sure what Sasuke was going to do or why she believed him when he said he never killed Itachi. Either way she was going to be cautious.

As she arrives at the old building she stood by the steps just outside, waiting for a clue as to if Sasuke was even there. It had taken her awhile before she had found the place after all.

"He's been dead for awhile, but not two years, no." She watched his gaze and couldn't help but feel intimidated by it. She wasn't afraid... wasn't going to feel inferior but he definitely knew how to make someone uncomfortable.

"So where have you been since you were...taken away from our world?"

"Last January I found myself in Toshima, Japan, where I stayed for just over a year. I met Madara, there, and learned what I needed to from him before he left. By the time Itachi arrived a second time, my hatred shifted from him to Konoha." Sasuke started to absently play with the ring on his finger as he spoke.

"I've been here since this past January." When he finished with his...explanation, he glanced up from the ring he had been playing with and back up at the kunoichi. "Satisfied?"

She absorbed the information and tried to process it. It... was a lot to take in.

"So you still hate Konoha... but why? I don't understand why you would stop hating Itachi for what he did... "

She paused. Satisfied? Hardly. She was going to get more information then that.

"From where I come from, you killed Itachi. You joined the Akatsuki and tried to capture a tailed beast by the name of Killerbee... after Konoha found out this news, Danzou took over as Hokage. He sentenced you to death and all of us went out to find you... to kill you. Except I went on alone and..."

Sakura paused and looked uncomfortable. This was the part that was still like an open sore... still painful and would still infect her if he wanted it to.

"You failed." Sasuke couldn't stop the smirk from growing on his face. "Still as weak and useless as I recall you being." What was five years for him, was three for Sakura. And yet... she still couldn't do a damned thing, despite everything.

It was sad, really.

Then, the smirk was gone as his eyes grew harder, colder. "You want to know why I wish to see Konoha disappear? Because they were the ones that ordered my brother to wipe out the clan."

Yeah, he could make her hurt still. Good to know.

"I didn't fail. I could have killed you, your guard was down, you were blind, you were the weak one. I could have killed you in an instant. But I stopped myself before I did... I didn't kill you...but you sure tried to kill me." She wasn't going to explain why she couldn't. Why have him laugh at her when he already was so full of himself. That didn't matter right now.

She took a deep breathe.

"Konoha... they were the ones to do it? Order Itachi... but that didn't mean he had to follow the order."

If Konoha ordered it... she could somewhat see why he would hate them, it even made her stomach rollover that her village could do such a thing. But Itachi still had free will, did he not?

"ANBU would have done it had he not done so himself. They wouldn't have left any survivors." He watched her for a moment longer before making a move to get up, pulling the cloak off of the back of his chair. Draping it across an arm, he moved elsewhere to grab the books he had been reading prior to Sakura's arrival.

"Is that all? Surely you weren't hoping for a cheerful Team 7 reunion."

"No, I am not done! Don't just dust me aside like some pest!" She stood up abruptly and slammed her hands on the table as she spoke.

"Itachi killed your family, your mother and father, but spared you? Why didn't he spare them, that makes no sense!" She took a breath. "I understand that you think Konoha is to blame, and you may be right! But Itachi wasn't innocent in his part either."

She glared at him as hard as she could. He was being stubborn... unreasonable. She didn't want a reunion, she didn't want everything to go back to normal. She just wanted to understand him... to understand why or how she still felt this way for him. She knew the reunion part would have to be by force.

"Itachi chose to play the bad guy." Sasuke placed his loose papers inside of the books and closed them to prevent them from falling. He glanced back over to Sakura, completely impassive.

"He spared my life so that I would be able to have one. Not that I liked it in any way."

"So you forgive a man with the blood of your mother on his hands, yet toss Naruto and I aside like trash."

She balled her hands into fists and stood in her place.

"Naruto and I have done nothing but care for you and try to help you in whatever way we could. I'm not saying you have to choice between Itachi and us but why can't we all be important to you? Why can't we all have a place in your life?"

Sasuke's eyes narrowed, not yet switching to the Sharingan. Not yet. This one wasn't worth the chakra.

"Neither of you have nothing for me. Not you, not Konoha. However, Naruto..." The Uchiha reached up with his free hand, covering half his face with his fingers spread as a crazed smirk gazed his lips.

"Naruto has the Kyuubi. He can easily help the Uchiha by dying!"

She grit her teeth and felt like punching him.

"We have nothing for you? Sasuke, we could give you friendship, hope, allies. Did you ever consider that maybe if you told us the whole truth we might see things your way? Maybe the people who planned the massacre should die, but the children and people of Konoha are innocent... you wouldn't want to make another orphan like you, right?"

She but her lip. She saw the same rage she had seen before, a light of the craziness that Sasuke had in his eyes when he tried to end her. But for the love of everything she couldn't hold her tongue.

"Naruto- If you touch Naruto I will come between you two and stop it. He's done nothing but try and save you! We both are trying to understand you! Why can't you see the people that really care for you?!"

She threw a book at him. It wasn't hard enough to hurt him, it wasn't anything he couldn't dodge. But she wanted to hit him so badly she couldn't help but throw something. Maybe that could knock some knowledge into his skull.

By the time Sasuke had knocked away the book, his eyes had changed from black to red. The smirk only grew, and before Sakura could even blink he was at her throat, calmly standing in front of her while he still held onto his belongings in the crook of his other arm.

"I detest repeating myself, you know." And then he started to squeeze.

She gasped for air and tried to kick him. She tried to hurt him, to do something but she knew she couldn't.

Last time he held her like that he almost killed her.

"Sasu- sasuke....stop...." She weezed. Please, if he was going to try and kill her again just... just make it quick. She couldn't do this anymore.

Naruto had been looking all over for Sakura since he last spoke to her. With no other options he decided to take a quick look in the library just in case. As he entered it took him a moment to realize what he was seeing but he was moving before he fully comprehended the situation.

"Sasuke stop!"

He dove to move in between them and twist Sasuke's arm away from Sakura.

Crimson eyes shifted as Naruto entered the scene, dropping Sakura and pulling his hand away before Naruto could touch him.

Great. The blond idiot was here, where he wasn't even wanted.

"This doesn't concern you."

Sakura fell to her knees and her hand went to her throat to rub it. She gasped for air, tears still in her eyes. Naruto? He had shown up to help her again?

She tried to make a noise, to stop them before they even started but she couldn't.

His eyes narrowed as he stared at Sasuke with his fists clenched at his sides. "How doesn't this concern me?"

He directed his next words towards Sakura but didn't take his eyes away from Sasuke's face. "Are you okay Sakura-chan?"

Sasuke tipped his head slightly, looking down at the jinchuuriki. "I don't recall inviting you to this little meeting."

She gasped a few more gulps in before answering.

"I'm fine... I'm fine Naruto." Her eyes went up to Sasuke as well. She couldn't have them fighting... couldn't have them killing each other.

"Sasuke and I... were just talking." She wiped at her tears trying to get a hold of herself. "Right, Sasuke-kun?"

"That sure didn't look like talking!" His words came out a little harsher then he meant. He didn't know who to be more angry at, Sasuke for hurting Sakura or Sakura for lying to him about it.

"What's your point? Not everyone is as pacifistic as you are."

"It was talking. Naruto, just calm down it's okay. I just aggravated Sasuke by speaking the truth."

She got to her feet slowly with a pointed look at Sasuke. She would try and smooth everything over. If they fought, they both would die or she would or perhaps they all would.

"It's okay now... thank you. Maybe we all should talk."

There were a lot of things on Naruto's mind at that moment but pacifism wasn't one of them. He wasn't stupid enough to buy into anything that was being said but there wouldn't be any point in fighting Sasuke now.

Finally he lead his gaze fall from Sasuke and he turned around to face Sakura. Instantly the tension eased off his body and he looked at her with a sort of...lost expression. He didn't know what to do. At least in their world he knew what the boundaries were but this was different. He didn't know what to say. It'll all been said before.

All Sasuke gave to Naruto was a simple, sadistic smirk. "Is that all? This is the last time I'll be asking. I do have other things to do that require my attention."

"I guess that's all, yes. If we need to talk again, I can just find you."

This was going nowhere. Sasuke wasn't going to listen to Sakura or Naruto alone, it would have to be both of them, united, to even have a chance of talking sense into him.

Right now she already felt like she was lost and that no matter what she said, it wouldn't change a thing. She saw Naruto's expression and could see how lost he was as well. They needed to talk, they ALL needed to talk, but not like this. She had been rash. Next time, they wouldn't be.

"I'll just... I need to go see where I'll be staying anyways. Can you show me, Naruto?"

He nodded. "Yeah, come on." His voice was tight but it was hard to distinguish if it was anger or sadness that made his voice so raw.

He spun around and headed towards the exit, knowing Sakura would follow. He didn't spare Sasuke so much as another glance.

She followed with just a back glance at Sasuke. She would see him again, she was sure. They all lived in this place now...
